12th Aug 2016 When a ‘Lion’ came to Buzby and Blue!!
We had a very special visitor to the Salon a couple of weeks ago which caused an 'UPROAR'!!! He came in to raise awareness of the Lions Charity and the work that they do, here is a little bit about them:
"Based in Chichester, West Sussex, we are one of over 700 clubs in the UK dedicated to providing a service to their local communities.
We are part of Lions Clubs International which was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1917 by insurance agent Melvin Jones and others. Lions are members of community service clubs, dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why.
More than 43,000 strong, these local clubs are part of the world's largest such organisation, with 1.4 million members serving in more than 180 countries and areas. The association is both non-political and non-sectarian.
We will be celebrating our 50th anniversary in October 2016. We have approximately 30 members, men and women, and are always keen to welcome new members. Over the last 50 years we have built up a strong record of service to the local community. Our members can be seen helping with local events as stewards, assisting local charities with their fundraising events and running our own fundraising events. We are well known in the City for the ever popular Santa float which tours the City throughout December and for our annual Model Railway Exhibition which has been running for more than 20 years.
We have been one of the principal spectacles recycling centres in the UK for many years, and recent developments have increased the volume of spectacles coming through our workshop to over 1 million pairs annually. For information about our spectacles recycling project, please select ‘Spectacles Recycling’ from the menu on the left.
All funds raised by Chichester Lions from public fundraising activities are used for charitable purposes. The Chichester Lions Club Charitable Trust is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission."
